Resolutions for 2009

Looks like I skipped out on making a publically recorded set of goals for 2008, so I won’t let that happen this year. I think that the best way to hold yourself accountable is to write them down, and for me, the best way to to that is via my blog.

Without further ado, here are my resolutions for 2009:

This is a repeat resolution, so I’ll list it first. I have confidence that I can succeed this time around, partly because Tobey has recently become a pretty good reader himself.  I want to set a good example for him, so I have extra motivation to read more often.

  • Continue to exercise

2008 was a renaissaince for exercise for me, but I want to make sure I keep it up in 2009 and don’t get complacent or fall back to old more comfortable levels of exercise. I feel vibrant,  younger, and in the best shape  in many years from what I accomplished in 2008, and I plan to keep it that way.

  • Work more efficiently

When its time to work on things, especially at night, I need to focus better on the task at hand. A lot of times my mind goes in 5 directions at once. I usually permit this because I’m still technically “working” but staying focused on a single task would help me get the sum of the tasks done in less time overall, which would allow more time for the next 2 resolutions!

  • Make time to be creative

I enjoy my late night routine, but the hours go quickly when I’m working on client projects, billing, and blogging. I need to also make time to work on some of the many projects floating around in my own head, because some of them could prove to be fruitful in 2009.

  • Spend more fun time with family

I already spend much of my free time, especially on the weekends, with Carrie, Tobey, and Ashley when she visits Englewood. However, its easy for that time to get filled with chores and responsibilities. I’m going to strive to make more time for creative play-time, and think outside the box when it comes to plans and activities.

  • Minimalize

This is my biggest, most important resolution. A big part of this is to clean up my home office work environment by getting rid of things I don’t need to keep and getting more organized, but I can also minimalize in the more virtual electronic world too, by cutting out things and activities that I don’t need to be hanging onto. I made some strides in this area in late 2008, but I still need to take it up a notch.

That’s it. I’ll look forward to reporting back on how it went in early 2010! Good luck to anyone out there reading this, with your own personal resolutions! Please feel free to comment with suggestions and tips on how I can meet these goals, or thoughts on your own goals!
