Michigan Vacation

We had a great week-long vacation in Michigan. The primary reason for the trip was to celebrate a “Century Birthday Party” for Karl and Amy - a combined birthday event.

Ashley was busy working her two summer life-guarding jobs in Englewood, and watching Twizzler, so Tobey, Carrie and I represented the family.

We arrived on Thursday afternoon, and Karl and Amy picked us up in Detroit and brought us to Ann Arbor. We helped prepare for the party, and the next day, Karl and I got in a round of golf at a nearby course he plays a league in. Tobey and I enjoyed the huge park and playground areas behind Amy and Karl’s house - and had several races up a huge hill, which led to tumbling down it afterwards. The weather could not have been more perfect for the better part of the first half of the trip - lots of sunshine, and low humidity, was great for us “dry heat” Coloradoans. :)

The big party on Saturday was a blast. Karl and Amy had friends and family coming in from all over the country. Amy and Carrie’s sister Tracy, and her family (Tom, J.T. and Jack) flew in from Texas. Tobey had a blast catching up with his sole cousins - Jack and J.T., and he was very thankful for the toys and clothes that they no longer use that they have shared with us over the past few years.

Then, we headed to East Lansing to spend a few nights with Celine and Michael. Michael took me out for an excellent round at the MSU West course, which we later played again with Karl and Tom. Tobey and I played “trains” in the driveway thanks to some colorful chalk that Celine provided. When Jack joined us the next morning, we expanded our creativity to include motorcycle tracks, complete with pit stops, jumps, and grandstands.

It was a great trip, and all too soon, it was time for Karl and Amy to take us back to the airport after a final night in Ann Arbor. Thanks to all of Carrie’s family for carting us around, showing us a great time, and for all the great meals!
