San Diego Trip

In late October, we took a week-long trip to San Diego California with the Lockwood’s and the Nicholl’s. The weather was not the best, but it was great to get away and vacation with longtime friends. We each have busy 2 year olds - Tobey, Madison, and Annika, and I think each of them had a great time with daily trips to the beach, and a visit to the world famous San Diego Zoo, along with the Aquarium.

We stayed in a 3 story condo just steps from the beach. Thanks to Chris’s generous Uncles (who own and work at several car dealerships) we had two minivans on loan for the week with which to get around and hold our 3 carseats.

Even with less than perfect weather, being near the beach is always a good time. We were on Mission Beach, which has a continuous boardwalk known as the Strand. We took daily trips either on the Strand or to the beach. Tobey enjoyed a small carnival at one end, and took particular interest in the roller coaster. Unfortunately, he learned that he had to be 48 inches tall before he could ride on it, even with Papa. So, we rode the Merry-go-round and boats ride instead.

Chris, Mike and I planned two golf outings in advance. Thanks to Chris and his efforts months in advance, we had a tee-time at the world famous Torrey Pines South Course. A challenging course to say the least. It’s also home of the Buick Invitational every year and the 2008 US Open. Our package included 18 holes and the first three holes with a pro. Our pro was great - she handed out lots of helpful advice and helped us read the greens. The highlight of the round for me was a birdie on the 3rd hole, with the ocean as a backgrop. Our other round was at Maderas, and was just as spectacular. Special thanks to Chris’s Uncle John again for this outing, and running into Phil Mickelson in the clubhouse afterwards was an unexpected bonus. :)

After the guys returned from Maderas, we took the kids so that the ladies could go enjoy a luxurious afternoon at a nearby spa. We met up for dinner that evening in La Jolla and the ladies definitely looked happy and radiant. Friday, the day before we returned to Colorado, was our nicest day. We played on the beach, enjoyed the sunshine, and Mike and Chris tried their hand (or feet) at surfing. Returning to reality was tough - always a sign of a good vacation. :)
