Proud of my Denver Nuggets

Most of you probably know that from November thru April, other than my family, there is a single driving force behind my recreational time.

That’s right, it’s the NBA’s Denver Nuggets. I haven’t written about them very often here at my personal blog, but this year I am inspired to do so.

I’ve been following them avidly since the 1993-1994 season, but can also name most of the players from the mid-to late 80’s if asked. Other than my good friend Dane Hansen, I personally know of no other fans that have stuck by the Nuggets during this stretch.

I’ve given a lot of my time, passion, and energy to support the Nuggets, but I have to be honest and say that they have doubly given back to me.

For one, DecaTech really owes its roots to the Nuggets. In 1994, I started a website that eventually evolved into NuggetsHoops.com. I taught myself much of what I now know about web design with experimentation and ideas thru that website, and continue to do so today. DecaTech may not have ever come to be without that start and love for creating websites that started there.

The last two years have been the ultimate treat to any longtime fan – Playoffs! This is when the time gets extended from a mid-April ending, to early May. The past two seasons, I have enjoyed 4 games in the loud confines of the Pepsi Center – the Nuggets homecourt. The atmosphere is like a rock concert, and I simply revel in it. When you follow a team that went 10 years between advancing to the playoffs, there is a lot of pent up emotion and joy ready to come out when that time comes around again.

Even though the Nuggets lost both of their home playoff games in the past two weeks, it was still a joy to be there. You learn to look at the bright side of things and appreciate the little things when your team isn’t a perennial powerhouse in the world of sports. (It helps that I also approach most days in life this way) I got to share each of these games with two of my favorite people – my wife Carrie, and my Dad. Someday soon, my son Tobey will join in on this tradition and we’ll have to acquire more than just two playoff tickets or draw some coveted straws.

As you can hopefully tell from this post, I’ve been fully engaged in supporting the Nuggets this past season, and especially during the playoffs. I’d like to thank my wife, my family, and friends for putting up with me during this time. :) Can’t wait til November 2005 to come around!
