DecaTech client project receives award
In the 7 years Carrie and I have run DecaTech Solutions, I’ve been fortunate to work with some great clients and interesting projects. The variety of the businesses that our clients own/manage is one of the things I really enjoy about web development.
Sense of Security is a client that I’ve worked with for over a year now. They provide financial assistance to the women and families that are impacted by breast cancer. Sense of Security came to us for assistance in helping to add additional features to their existing website and provide hosting service. I have worked with Angela Ricker, their Executive Director to help them add the ability to take online donations for their many charity events, and most recently helped implement Angela’s brainchild of an online financial assistance web application. She dubbed it FAST (Financial Assistance Screening Tool) and working together, we created a very dynamic, easy to administer web application that Angela and Sense of Security can enhance and modify as needed, without having to work with me for their changes. When the project was completed a few months ago, it was one of my proudest programming achievements in several years because it turned out to be even more flexible than I had initially envisioned, and I knew Angela was pleased with the end result.
This past week, Angela contacted me to say that the “Colorado Cancer Coalition” had informed her that Sense of Security’s FAST - Financial Assistance Screening Tool Project has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Outstanding Innovative Project award. Nominations in that category were numerous this year, making the field very competitive. The Coalition commended her for her work, and thanked her for her impressive contributions in the fight against cancer in Colorado.
The Colorado Cancer Leadership Awards Ceremony, will be taking place next Thursday, August 11th, at the 5th Annual Colorado Cancer Conference at the Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center.
On behalf of DecaTech, I am very proud to have worked behind the scenes to help Angela and Sense of Security to win this well-deserved award.

Congratulations, Alan. Your Dad had mentioned something to us about the award. We are happy to know more about the work that was done. It must be satisfying to know so many people have been helped in some way!

Thanks for the kudos and the nice write-up Alan. This project is really affecting people across Colorado and it has been our pleasure at Sense of Security to work with you. So many breast cancer patients don’t have access to a social worker to guide them through the maze that is our public and community aid system. FAST cuts to the chase, and . . . fast. It has been a wonderful addition to our service, and a great PR tool.

Dear Alan,
As Sense of Security’s Board President, it is a pleasure to connect in some way with the technowizard who assisted in making F.A.S.T. a reality. When Angela sent the first email and link indicating the program was up and running, I immediately tried it out and fell in love with the way it works, how easy it is to use, the fact that it will truly assist real people in real life situations - which is what Sense of Security has always been about.
The two of you have done a wonderful job in bringing this tool to the public. “Thank you” doesn’t quite seem sufficient - I know it never does when I’m tryiing to congratulate Angela on her creativity. We’re thrilled about the Coalition’s award!
