ULTIMATE!
I just finished up my first Ultimate League this past Sunday.
What is Ultimate, you ask?
Ultimate is a running game of frisbee… hucking a large disc to your teammates in an effort to march down the field and catch it in the endzone. The other team tries to stop you by knocking down or catching that same disc and heading in the other direction. This spring league was a competitive but not overly so version of coed, with 7 men and women on the field from each team. Games were played in nearby Denver City Park. A large emphasis is placed on “Spirit of the Game” - meaning, Ultimate is a sport where good sportsmanship is encouraged and rewarded. Besides the friendly environment, that might be one of the best aspects of this sport.
Before Amy and Brian left for Vanuatu, I watched them play several times. Amy has been telling me for years to give Ultimate a try, that I would surely enjoy the sport, and that it had many parallels to the things I like about Volleyball. She was right! Amy and Brian and I were blessed to be picked up in the pre-season “draft” by the same captain, as one of my ulterior motives was to spend some extra time with them this summer before they leave for Minnesota. It couldn’t have worked out any better - not just because the team that picked us up was awesome - from the captain right down to the last guy and girl, but because I got extra assistance in learning the game from two of the best!
Here are a few pictures from the final day of the season:

Sounds like a lot of good catching and throwing to get down the field. No wonder it is called Ultimate! With that good sportsmanship, we call everyone a winner. Enjoyed all the pictures!
