Gramp Thomson  --  Dave Thomson  --    1917-2004

We choose to celebrate Gramp's life because anything else would not be what this man, who was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, life-long Boy Scout, and more... would have wanted.

Gramp loved life and he loved his family. This flowed all the way down the tree.. and we love him right back... and all 8 of his grandchildren gathered on Friday to share in this. Also, please see the links to articles about Gramp on the Memorial page.

So, here's a website to help us celebrate and remember Gramp.

Hope you enjoy it big guy.

Love, your grandson, Alan.

Gramp's humor was infectious, legendary and varied, but it was a very important part of him. He may have seemed gruff at times to us grandchildren when we were young, but we soon realized that he was actually a big teddy bear at heart.

Here's a few of my favorite sayings or memories that help capture that fact.

While playing our family card game of "Nutsee" he was famous for enforcing the rules of the table time and time again... "one hand at a time please!"

When the grandchildren were gathered in the family room once when we were all quite a bit younger, and had just finished lunch. I was just about to bite into an Oreo cookie that I had carefully separated so I could get at the cream filling inside. Suddenly, I felt a clamp on my shoulder. "Don't ever pull apart the cookies!" said the booming voice. To this day, eat oreo cookies without pulling them apart. I smile when I eat them though. :)

When it was a holiday or better yet, Gramp's birthday you always knew what the dessert would be. In fact, you would often forget the actual meal, because that just wasn't the important part. I was all about the strawberry shortcake... and the hugest smile you ever saw on Gramp's face as he prepared to dive in.

It has been an honor to be part of this family! Gram and Gramp created a wonderful family that keeps on getting bigger and better. Everytime I watched a golf tournament on tv, I would wonder if Gramp was watching it up in Redstone. I am sure he is getting a much better view now from Heaven! What a great time we had celebrating him this past weekend. Love Carrie xo

Hi, Gramp! I hope you're able to log on and read all of these wonderful thoughts that we hold close to our hearts. I imagine you up in Heaven, hoarding all of the strawberry shortcake, keeping it all for yourself, with that sly grufness that you are so masterful at expressing. All I ask is that you don't eat it all, because when I get to Heaven, I'm already looking forward to sharing a big dish of fresh strawberry shortcake with you. (And I am prepared to fight you for the last bite!!!) This is the one thing I shared STRONGLY with you, our love of strawberries!!! Your strong personality and Gramp-like mannerisms will be carried close to my heart until the time when we are all united in God's heaven! I love you, Gramp! ~ Debbi
